Social Responsibility

Committed to the principles of corporate responsibility, we operate in an open and honest manner.  Our future is built on respect – respect for your business needs and performance targets, respect for your customers, respect for the environment and respect for the community.

Working in the four utility sectors – Electric, Gas, Water & Telecoms, Morrison is at all times aware of our responsibility to the communities around us. We take corporate responsibility very seriously; indeed our Corporate Responsibility strategy is part of our wider sustainable development programme for the business.

Social responsibility programmeThe challenge for us is the delivery of corporate strategic objectives via a ‘self-managing’ mobile field workforce, who demonstrate in practice the cultural values of Morrison’s Corporate Responsibility strategy. Through the success of our communications programmes, we’ve created employee and community engagement that has brought our CR strategy to life and taken it out of the boardroom to succeed at positioning Corporate Responsibility at the heart of our business and made it real at all levels of the organisation.

Morrison was delighted to be named as a finalist in the award for CSR Achievement in the 2005 Quality in Construction Awards and the Hertfordshire Business Awards.

It is important in our view for our Corporate Responsibility policies to reflect the client’s key value drivers, which will often include but are not limited to the following: safety, integrity, partnership and collaborative working, customer care, clear and simple communication, innovative solutions & new technology and attracting, training & retaining the best people.

At Morrison we define corporate citizenship in two ways: -

  • Community Involvement: by supporting local community initiatives through sponsorships, financial contributions or training opportunities to develop relationships with the communities we serve.
  • Community Relations: relations with the community through being a good neighbour, either through communication or being considerate contractors or through employee participation and volunteering.

The two definitions are inter-dependent and cannot operate in isolation if our corporate responsibility policies are to be successful. To our minds, being a good corporate citizen is about so much more than simply writing cheques for good causes. We aim to address social issues through our community involvement.
