Morrison Utility Services is part of a consortium with Jacobs Engineering and Mitsubishi Electric. The consortium, referred to as ‘J2M’, is working with National Grid in the Electricity Substation Alliance for the south west which includes south Wales and south west England. The Alliance is responsible for delivering the complete scope of the overall programme of works including design, programme management, construction and equipment provision relating to the building and refurbishment of grid substations.
Morrison Utility Services carry out the electrical and mechanical installation in addition to the the civil engineering works. Jacobs Engineering is one of the world’s largest and most diverse providers of professional technical services and provides programme management and other design and project support services. Mitsubishi Electric is a world-wide manufacturer of electrical substation equipment and provides high voltage equipment and engineering design solutions.
The scope of both the civil and electrical aspects of grid substation construction presents the opportunity for Morrison Utility Services to further demonstrate their extensive capability in large and complex substation construction projects.
There are in the region of 15 substation projects released each year ranging in value from £3m to £50m, each project taking from 6 months to 3 years to complete.
