Morrison Gains International Environmental Standard

Morrison has achieved certification to the international standard for Environmental Management, ISO 14001.

The certification follows the successful implementation of Morrison's Corporate Environmental Management System across the majority of its contracts. Morrison's two joint venture companies Maintenance and Property Care and CityCare also hold the certification separately.

The ISO 14001 environmental management system standard is internationally recognised with over 6,000 businesses in the UK currently certified and over 110,000 worldwide. The audit of Morrison's system was carried out by independent auditors LRQA.

Darren Hill, National Environmental Advisor for Morrison, said: "This certification is testament to the diligent and professional work that has been put into the implementation process and highlights Morrison's commitment to continually improving our environmental performance.

"The IS0 14001 certification provides us with a credible external assurance that our environmental management system is working, which can only be good news for the business, our clients and the communities in which we work."

Denis Ives, Business Centre Manager at LRQA, said: "In achieving certification to ISO 14001, Morrison has publicly demonstrated its commitment to continual improvement in the area of environmental performance. This will be an invaluable addition to the processes and disciplines established previously with its quality and health and safety management system certifications."

Over the next few months Morrison will be working to incorporate all the few remaining contracts not covered by the certification, with the majority expected to be completed by October.

Morrison also holds certification to the quality, ISO 9001 and occupational health and safety, OHSAS 18001 management system standards.
