Morrison has been awarded a new £60.5milion contract by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council and its ALMO 2010 Rotherham Limited. The 5.5 year contract, with four possible one year extensions, is for the provision of repairs and maintenance to over 13,000 properties across Rotherham.

Morrison will be providing responsive repairs and voids across Rotherham North, Rotherham South and Wentworth North, as well as planned works, capital works and aids and adaptations across the whole of Rotherham, when the contract commences in the autumn.

As part of its investment in the Borough, Morrison will also set up its third Morrison Academy, providing training for employees and tenants. Morrison has also committed to establishing a new apprenticeship scheme.

This new partnership takes the total value of Morrison's contracts won since the start of 2010 to over £448million, with a potential worth in excess of £928 million subject to contract extensions.

Guy Wakeley, Chief Executive of Morrison, said: "2010 Rotherham is a significant new relationship for Morrison, and we are thrilled to have won the opportunity to work with our new partners on their journey to three star status.

"The Borough of Rotherham will now form the new hub for our businesses in Yorkshire, where we will continue to grow our presence and create sustainable employment. We are looking forward to welcoming our new colleagues from 2010 Rotherham later in the year."

Guy continued: "Morrison continues to win new accounts across the country both through organic and new business growth and with over £1.7billion in opportunities in our bid pipeline, we look forward to building both the largest and best performing repairs and maintenance portfolio in the country."

Chair of 2010 Rotherham Paul Jagger said: "We are firmly focused on becoming a three star ALMO. The externalisation of this part of our business presents a real opportunity for 2010 Rotherham, the staff involved and the Council, to move forward into a new and successful era. Customers can expect to receive good value for money services in the future, and we are looking forward to working with our new contractors over the coming years.

Cabinet Member for Neighbourhoods Councillor Akhtar said: "2010 Rotherham and Rotherham Borough Council are determined to get the best possible service for our tenants at the keenest price. As part of this we have chosen Morrison and Willmott Dixon as the new contractors to carry out repairs and maintenance to Council housing from October this year.* Both Morrison and Willmott Dixon are established national providers with excellent reputations for providing efficient repairs and maintenance services delivered to a three star standard."
