Business in the Community has awarded leading repairs and maintenance company Morrison a Bronze Award in its 2009 Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI), the UK's leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility.

Morrison was also acknowledged as the most improved company out of the 111 to be ranked on the index, having seen its score rise from 46% to 74% in just 12 months. This is only the second year Morrison has entered the index, which makes this leap a significant achievement for the company.

The CRI helps companies to integrate and improve corporate responsibility throughout their business operations, by providing a systematic approach to managing, measuring and reporting on business impacts in society and on the environment.

Areas where Morrison scored well include staff training and development, employee engagement, health and safety systems and environmental issues.

Sara Robertson, Director of People and Organisational Development, said: "The achievement of this Bronze award demonstrates Morrison's commitment to corporate responsibility across its business and its ongoing journey towards ensuring all its business practices have a positive social and environmental impact.

"Over the past year, we have worked hard to make improvements in our business and this award is the accumulation of these efforts. However, this is only the beginning of our journey and we will continue to develop our responsible business practices and invest in our staff to ensure that we are delivering the highest level of service to our clients and the communities in which we work."

Morrison has been a member of Business in the Community for over three years and has actively worked alongside BITC to develop its approach and activities in the role of corporate responsibility.
