Crawley's green walk receives a tidy up
An area of Crawley's Green Walk near Broadfields Stadium has received a spruce up thanks to the hard work of a team of volunteers, who carried out a morning's litter picking in the area.
The team of 14 volunteers, was made up of managers from leading repairs and maintenance provider Morrison, their partners and children. In total the team collected 20 large bags of rubbish as well as a number of unwanted items, including a bike! Morrison carries out repairs and maintenance work on council owned void properties throughout the borough, on behalf the Crawley Council.
The event was organised as part of the Big Tidy Up campaign, being run by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
John Barclay, Senior Resident Liaison Manager, said: "We chose the vicinity of Broadfields Stadium for this event because we were informed that it attracts a lot of visitors and as a result can suffer from careless littering.
"Everyone who took part really enjoyed getting out and doing their bit to help and truly felt they had achieved something worthwhile.
"The morning also provided an ideal opportunity for us to engage with local residents and talk about the importance of looking after the environment. Hopefully it may also have set off a gem of enthusiasm amongst those we spoke to carry out future events like this.
The Crawley Big Tidy Up was organised as part of a series of Morrison Big Tidy Up events, which have taken place across the country during the summer and autumn. During its campaign Morrison and its partners have managed to collect over 150 bags of rubbish from Britain's roads, parks and communal areas.
