The Morrison Scotland team sponsored the International Children’s Games  golf event which was held this summer at Hamilton Golf Club and set up a new Golf School to help local children gain an introduction to the sport.

The school was set up by Morrison Scotland in partnership with North Lanarkshire Leisure to help leave a lasting legacy in the community after the Children’s Games had finished. John Boyd, Managing Director of Morrison Scotland said: “Whilst our £25,000 investment in the games is playing an  important role in helping Lanarkshire to deliver this fantastic event, we also  wanted to ensure that we made a lasting difference to our local community.

This led us to create the Morrison Golf School in partnership with North Lanarkshire Leisure, with the aim of helping to open up the sport to children and teenagers who may previously not have had the opportunity to try it  out.” The five week programme was taught by PGA professional Scott Clelland  at the newly opened Lochview Golf Centre in Coatbridge. Each week the  students receive one to one lessons on the driving range and on the state of the art golf simulator. The inaugural programme was attended by four  teenagers from Drumpark School in Coatbridge and culminated with a trip to  the games themselves, where the youngsters were presented with certificates  to record their achievements as well as being able to experience the game  being played first hand.

Morrison Scotland has continued the golf school throughout 2011 in order to  give local school children the opportunity to take part and have a once in a  lifetime opportunity to be taught by a real golf professional in the skills of the  game.

Well done to all the Morrison Scotland employees involved with this  initiative.
