Flying the Flag

The new Morrison Scotland team flew the flag in style recently by organising an exciting launch event to celebrate the start of Morrison’s new 10 year contract with NLC for the provision of all housing and property maintenance services, which commenced back in January. Speaking at the event were Chief Executive Guy Wakeley, Russell Ellerby, Assistant Chief Executive of North Lanarkshire Council and Hugh Logan, Principal and Chief Executive of Motherwell College.

The event also marked the launch of the Morrison Scotland Training Academy, which will operate in partnership with Motherwell College. Over the next decade, Morrison Scotland has committed to train over 1000 people in the North Lanarkshire region at the college and at the training academy in Tannochside. The Academy will provide a comprehensive programme of learning and development across four key areas, all of which will increase employment opportunities in the North Lanarkshire region. The four strands include providing 20 apprenticeships and 30 second chance apprenticeships per year, employment matters courses for up to 50 people per annum who are unemployed or from disadvantaged backgrounds to help them gain job seeking skills and Morrison’s trades development programme for 20 employees per annum.

Hugh Logan, Principal and Chief Executive of Motherwell College, said: “Regeneration is at the heart of Motherwell College’s ethos and our partnership with Morrison Scotland is a shining example of how business and educational facilities can work together to help improve the lives of people in an area. We very much look forward to welcoming our first Morrison Scotland students through our doors.” The launch was also the perfect opportunity for the Scottish team to celebrate some of their apprentices and the awards for Overall Apprentice of the Year, Mentor of the Year and Longevity of Service were presented on the night. Well done to all the apprentices for their hard work!”
