MORRISON HAVERING
Residents do it themselves in Havering
Twelve lucky residents got the chance to brush up on their DIY skills thanks to a special practical workshop in Harold Hill.
The session, held this summer in Hitchin Close, saw residents given handson tutoring in basic DIY, including wiring a plug, replacing a tap washer, bleeding a radiator and repairing a wall. The event was organised by Homes in Havering (HiH) and Morrison, who provided expert tuition from their dedicated Havering Handyman team.
Residents were also given a practical demonstration on the safe use of power tools and the day was finished off with a question and answer session on any DIY related issues. Each participant was presented with a £10 B&Q voucher in order to get them started on their own DIY project and one lucky resident, Kieran Dielhen, won a fantastic toolkit in a prize draw, all kindly donated by Morrison. John Bloss, Resident Development Officer at HiH said: “Giving our residents the chance to learn new skills to improve and look after their homes is a great new initiative. Homes in Havering are excited to be working with our partners in bringing DIY training to our customers and we would really like to develop this into a regular part of our resident training programme”. Lucy Crowhurst, Resident Liaison Manager said: “We were really pleased to see so many residents taking part in this event and everyone really enjoyed the experience. By teaching tenants some simple DIY skills we are able to give them the confidence to tackle projects in their own homes, which they may previously have felt unable to do. We look forward to working with our partner Homes in Havering to deliver more of these sessions in the future.” Well done to Lucy and the team for all their hard work.
