Morrison Helps Tidy Up East Croydon Estate

Croydon

On Monday 17th October 2011, Morrison joined forces with its partner Amicus Horizon and 100 community volunteers including residents and local organisations to take part in a street clean up around Christie Drive, in East Croydon.

The event was organised by Keep Britain Tidy, as part of its new anti-littering campaign - Love Where You Live, which is about taking that desire to live in clean and tidy places and turning it into a long-term campaign of activity by all sections of the community.

Love Where You Live is being backed by Keep Britain Tidy's celebrity ambassador and TV personality Kirstie Allsopp, who also attended the clean-up event in Croydon together with Environment Secretary Caroline Spelman.

During the event the volunteers picked up over one and a half tons worth of rubbish from streets, gardens and open areas, as well as clearing three gardens, pruned over 20 trees, painting four benches and clearing an overgrown shrub area known for attracting antisocial behaviour.

Ian Rhodes, Account Manager for Morrison Croydon, said: "Morrison is committed to working with our partner Amicus Horizon to make a difference to the local community in which we work.

"This is the fourth estate clean up we have undertaken this year in Croydon and we know that residents really feel the benefit. Improving and tidying up the local environment not only helps residents to feel safer but creates a real sense of pride in the neighbourhood, which can then act as a deterrent to antisocial behaviour."
