Making our Communities Safe places to live, work and visit
As part of the SFR contract MPC were given a job to carry out refurbishment work and associated building works within SFR Hamilton headquarters. The biggest task for MPC was the building of a new reception at HQ. This work commenced in January 2009 and had to be completed by May 2009.
For this work to be carried out with no disruptions to SFR, MPC created and fitted out a temporary reception. Once this was operational the existing reception was completely demolished. Part of this demolition process was carried out by a sub-contactor who had their operatives working around the clock for 48 hours to minimise disruption to staff at SFR.
On 4th February, John Boyd (MD) made his first visit to site. There were doubts in his mind that the completion date would not be met as there was still a very large hole in the ground.
New work within the reception area started on 9th February with all work programmed for a completion date of end of April 2009. The target for the work was a very tight schedule but everyone on site was kept up to date and knew the results that were required. The team from MPC worked closely with any sub-contractors that were involved to achieve completion within the timescale. There was a lot of work to get through and the team at one point felt that they lived within the Fire Station. With very good organisational skills and supervision from Carey Wilson and Tom Byrne this job was completed in the stated time, along with other work that SFR put our way along the course of the job.
The SFR new reception opened to staff and public on 4th May 2009. Brian Sweeney, Chief Fire Officer for SFR and Fergus Ewing, Minister for Community Safety, Scottish Government, held an official opening ceremony on Tuesday 19th May attended by both John Boyd (MD) and Tom Byrne (SDL).
